GOD’S WORD FOR MARCH 10 ~ ~ Prayer of Jabez ~ ~ 1Chronicles 4:10 ~ ~ “And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, “Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that it may not cause me pain!” So God granted him what he requested.” Jabez’s prayer is one that made it into the Word of God. It is a prayer any true child of God can pray and expect God to hear it. It applies to all areas of our lives. First, he asked for blessing in all areas of his life, and to enlarge his territory. That could mean materially or his relationship with God, or both. He prayed God’s hand with him. This means in his work, play, learning, eating, sleeping…..every moment of his life. He prayed for protection from evil, because he knew he lived in a fallen, evil world, as we certainly do also, and he prayed for protection from that evil, as he acknowledged God as sovereign over every area of his life. With the danger from evil in our environment, comes also the danger of evil from our own fallen nature. We need protection from that also, to keep our hearts and minds focused of Jesus, quickly repenting of known sins, so we don’t pay the consequences of our sin and weaknesses. We all need to pray the simple, faith filled prayer of Jabez.
