GOD’S WORD FOR MARCH 23
GOD’S WORD FOR MARCH 23 ~ ~ Phil 4:12— “I know how to be abased, and I know how to abound. Everywhere and in all things I have learned both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need. I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” How many times have we seen only the last part of this verse group used to show, in effect, that we can make up our minds to do something on our own, and God will give us the strength to do it. This shows the importance of taking a verse in context. Paul is speaking of the Philippians sending him help when he was imprisoned for preaching the Gospel. He is referring to the fact that it is easy to stray from God in either extreme when our minds are on material things. Especially prosperity tends to make us feel independent of God. He is saying, between the lines, that when our minds are stayed on knowing that God is the provider of all things (as in the beginning of that chapter he makes clear) then He will give us the strength to keep our eyes on Him whether in need or in prosperity, and it won’t make any difference in our attitude. This world is determined to tear us from Him and join with them. Stay strong, keep your eyes on Jesus, “the Author and Finisher of your faith.” (Hebrews 12:2)
