GOD’S WORD FOR JUNE 24
GOD’S WORD FOR JUNE 24~ ~Philippians 2:3~ ~ “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.”
The females “rule the roost” in a paper wasp colony. Young males very well liked, because they don’t contribute anything to food gathering and are considered useless eaters. So, since the females do the work, they simply will stuff their brothers head first into unused nest cells. So much for the useless eaters.
But in Costa Rica there is a type of wasp in which the males are not only in charge, but also, help out in the nest. The female wasps still gather the food, but the males demand and get all they want, even from the queen. But the males were also observed fanning an overheated nest to cool it. They helped remove water during a flood, and they helped take care of the larvae. The males of this species remain with their parent colony for an unusually long time for wasps. Yet, at any time, they can father a new colony. Other tropical species are now being studied to see if this behavior is unique.
While animals evaluate their behavior strictly on the basis of contribution to the whole, God tells us to love one another and value the life He has created.
John 13:34-35~ ~ “A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.
