GOD’S WORD FOR OCTOBER 28
GOD’S WORD FOR OCTOBER 28 ~ ~ 1John 3:8 ~ ~ “….The Son of God appeared for this purpose, to destroy theworksofthedevil.”
Scientists have known for some time that hummingbirds prefer bright-colored flowers. On the other hand, all of us know that white is most easily seen at night. That means that moths that pollinate flowers will more easily find white flowers. The question is: What is a flower to do when it is pollinated by hummingbirds during part of its flowering season and by night-flying moths later in its flowering season?
That’s the problem faced by a flowering plant called the gilia. Hummingbirds arrive to pollinate the flowers in mid-July. However, they leave in late August as the weather cools. Also in late August, the night-flying hawk moth arrives to begin pollinating the flower. This arrangement continues until late September. To attract both hummingbirds and moths during its long flowering season, the gilia provides bright red flowers, favored by the hummingbirds, until late August. Then it offers white flowers to attract the hawk moths! (which is why I have two pictures for this writing)
Evolutionary scientists call this an example of evolutionary strategy. Think about that for a moment. How would a flower know what color it is? How would it know which colors are preferred by hummingbirds and which are preferred by moths? A flower could no more decide to change its color than you or I can decide to grow an inch taller.
Both logic and science say that the gilia’s special features are intelligently designed by a truly gifted Engineer. Why not, then, recognize the work of our all-wise Creator for what it is!
While this is great for the gilia plant, and shows the care of God for His creation, it’s not a good way for Christians to deal with the world we’re living in. Accommodating two sides isn’t an option for the true believer.
It’s as simple as light and dark, or as in the gilia plant, day and night. Jesus is light, the devil and his, evil world system that we live in, is darkness.
Then Jesus said again to them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.
But a great majority of people don’t have the Light of Christ in them. We are the minority. The Word makes that clear.
Matthew 7:13-14~ ~ “Enter through the narrow gate; for the gate is wide and the way is broad that leads to destruction, and there are many who enter through it. For the gate is narrow and the way is constricted that leads to life, and there are few who find it.”
This is why those on the broad way are condemned:
“And this is the condemnation, that light has come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil.”
We’ve all done evil deeds. The difference is that those on the broad way are still trying to make amends with God through their good works, through their church, or just by thinking they can talk their way out at the judgment. But none of those things work.
It is only through acknowledging and repenting of our sin and accepting the payment that Jesus made for our sins on the cross, that we can enter on the narrow way, and be in the Light. There is no chance one second after death.

One church says that there is a lesser and temporary punishment after death, and before entering heaven or hell. They call is “purgatory”. God’s Word (which is our ONLY authority) says nothing about this. There are two destinations: Eternal life, and eternal punishment. No talking your way out, and no temporary punishment. Doctrines like purgatory are man-made, not God-breathed. They are the means of destruction, not life, and their motivation is power and money. In this case, that church sells “indulgences” which is loved ones paying to “get” their loved ones out of purgatory, or buying masses for them. Nothing could be farther from God’s loving motives for us!!! It is another insult to the God of the Universe.
Hebrews 9:27 – “And just as it is destined for people to die once, and after this comes judgment,”
So, it’s easy to see why we can’t just blend in with the world, accept everything they teach, and let our children learn their ways. The two sides couldn’t be more opposite.
“And be not conformed to this world: but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
2 Corinthians 6:14-18–
“Do not be mismatched with unbelievers; for what do righteousness and lawlessness share together, or what does light have in common with darkness? Or what harmony does Christ have with Belial, or what does a believer share with an unbeliever? Or what agreement does the temple of God have with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said,
“I will dwell among them and walk among them;
And I will be their God, and they shall be My people.
Therefore, come out from their midst and be separate,” says the Lord.
“And do not touch what is unclean;
And I will welcome you.
And I will be a father to you,
And you shall be sons and daughters to Me,”
Says the Lord Almighty.”
