GOD’S WORD FOR OCTOBER 29
GOD’S WORD FOR OCTOBER 29 ~ ~ Isaiah 55:11~ ~ “So will My word be which goes out of My mouth; It will not return to Me empty, Without accomplishing what I desire, And without succeeding in the purpose for which I sent it.”
In 2 Sam 5:6-10 David captured Jerusalem from the fiercely independent
Canaanite tribe of Jebusites in 1004BC. He moved his capital to Jerusalem
and lived in the Fortress of Zion which he called the City of David
At that time, the city was much smaller than it is today, and was confined to the low north-south ridge called Ophel (meaning ‘the hump’) to the south of what is now the Temple Mount.
David’s heavily armed men took the defenders by surprise as they climbed up through the narrow vertical shaft and sloping tunnel that enabled the Jebusites to haul water up from the Gihon Spring (the ‘gusher spring’) outside the city wall into their fortified city on top of Ophel Hill, which is now called Mount Zion.
For many years, this story was disputed as false, and used as evidence of the Bible being false in general, since there were different tunnels under the city that didn’t agree in detail with the description in the Bible of the natural tunnels under the city at that time which David and his men used to enter the city and conquer the Jebusites who were holding the city.
Then the archaeologists realized that in the meantime the system was altered, and man made tunnels were added, and connected to, the ancient natural tunnels. They were forced to admit the detailed accuracy of God’s Word.
The Bible in general, and the story of David taking what later became known as the City of David, are both true in every detail.
2 Timothy 3:16 ~ ~ “All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for
correction, for training in righteousness,”
In Old Testament Scripture, we can relate to “The Law” as “The Word of God” because of the relationship of the two covenants that God made with His people.
Psalm 19:7 ~ ~ “The Law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul;
The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple.”
Psalm 1:2 ~ ~ “But his delight is in the Law of the Lord, And on His Law he meditates day and night.”
Psalm 94:12 ~ ~ “Blessed is the man whom You discipline, Lord, And whom You teach from Your Law,”
We can trust every word of the Bible, which is the Living Word of God.
