GOD’S WORD FOR JANUARY 15
GOD’S WORD FOR JANUARY 15 ~ ~ Exodus 19:4 ~ ~ “You have seen what I did to the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you to myself.”
Did you ever wonder why God’s Word talks so much about Eagles,
and wings.
Besides the passage above, here are just a few more:
Ps 103:5 speaks of “..youth renewed like eagles’ “
Isaiah 40:31…promises …”mount up with wings as eagles”
God speaks many times of the speed of eagles….Lamentations 4:19,
Deut. 28:49 Jeremiah 4:13 2 Samuel 1:23, and many other verses
compare the power of God to Eagles speed.
God’s creatures portray a facet of Himself. Not as eternal, omnipotent,
omniscient or omnipresent, but a part of His wisdom is put into the
instincts of His creation,
One of the most magnificent is the eagle. I am fortunate to live in
an area where eagles reside. Our farm lies on the edge of a ravine,
where the currents are just right for large birds to ride the updrafts.
They circle and rise with every round. There is a lesson in all of
nature.
God wants us to rise above our circumstances….We have to
go through them, but as we experience them, He will give us His
“updrafts” to bring us higher with each day’s experience of the problem.
We do this by keeping our eyes on Him, as the eagle keeps his eyes on
his creator through instinct.
One of the most amazing things to watch is the eagle parents teaching
their young to fly. They will push the young birds (who appear larger
than their parents due to their fluffy feathers) and watch them begin
to fall, but they are ready to catch them if they can see that they cannot
begin an ascent. Then they will swoop down and fly just below the young
bird and allow him to ride back to a branch to try again….not back to
the nest….not to give up….but to try again after a short rest. Time and
time again this may have to be done, but you can see the joy when the
bird accomplishes the flight by himself.
God does that with us. We fail Him over and over again. Sometimes by our stubbornness and sometimes by our weakness. Sometimes He will allow us to pay the price, but not to fail entirely, before He brings us back. The problem with us is that
if we are strong-willed,and the problem is persistent sin, not just weakness, then each time we do that, it will be harder for us to come back to Him in repentance. We need to be tuned in to His voice, and soft-hearted toward Him.
We will fail at times, but we should not test Him with strong willed defiance, or a failure
to listen, which is actually the same, even though we don’t realize it at the time.
If we love Him, we will willingly obey Him, and obedience magnifies just as defiance does. When we obey Him in little things, it becomes easier each time, and He will give us bigger things.
The joy and fellowship we feel with Him upon every act of obedience draws us tighter to Him…..and that just cannot be described in words!!!! It is not unlike what the eagle feels, feeling the wind beneath his wings, gliding on the updrafts, knowing that his parents wings are under him, just as our Father’s everlasting arms are beneath us!!!
Deuteronomy 33:27 ~ ~ “…The eternal God is your refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: …”
