GOD’S WORD FOR APRIL 21
GOD’S WORD FOR APRIL 21 ~ ~ Romans 1:20 ~ ~ “For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; …” Sometimes it seems clear that God wanted to entertain us with some of His creatures, and yet, they have a perfectly useful niche within that creation. One of those is the stick insects. They range in size from very thin and tiny to about the size of a person’s finger, and these even have ridges that are like the bamboo branches that they inhabit, eat, and impersonate.
Other versions have green protrusions on their bodies that match in size, shape and color of the leaves on their favorite trees!
Their eggs even look like the seeds of their host trees!!!!! Sometimes they glue their eggs to the leaves of the trees.
They are sought after by predators, so their Creator has given them this disguise as their protection. They can stay motionless for many hours, so they look like a dead twig or branch. They will even let themselves sway with the wind so as not to look different from the twigs. Otherwise, if they were motionless on a windy days, birds would notice the difference and investigate, probably finding lunch. They are so good at their illusions that even if a bird picks them up, they will remain stiff and motionless while the bird carries them off, and many times the bird will drop them. I wonder how many end up in nests as sticks?
Some of them have brightly colored wings, even though they can’t fly, but they use them to spread out and scare birds away.
Obviously, these insects did not develop randomly, nor did they “crawl out of the swamp” with protection like this.
While the stick insect’s job is to blend in and not be seen, that is not what Our Lord and Creator wants for His children. We are to “… Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15) We are not of this world, and we’re not to join in with it. (Romans 12:2) Time is short, and many need to hear the Truth.
Psalm 29:2 “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; worship the Lord in the splendor of His Holiness.”
